On roll-up doors the spring on each side is controlled by a spring cable on a pulley; and to adjust the tension you need to pull the cable further through the plate above the door. If you have a swing-up door you will notice that the spring on each side is hooked into notches or holes. You can easily adjust the tension by moving the hook into the next notch or hole.
